Being a Virtual Assistant can sometimes be a bit o Being a Virtual Assistant can sometimes be a bit of a lonely gig. When you serve your clients, you’re always thinking of their needs before your own and I know it is so easy to leave your own business development to the end of your To Do list. When I started my business in 2018, I felt like I didn’t know anyone else who did what I did. I thought that other VAs would see me as competition and wouldn’t want to be pals with me. Fast forward 18 months and I realised how wrong I was. Other VAs are the people I talk to without having to deliver an epic introduction - they just GET IT. They know the woes, the highs, the lows and the joys of being in the DFY space. This led me to create my CDVA Membership. A safe space to chat, connect and support other VAs. Not a huge scary group where it feels scary to ask a question but, instead, a safe space to support and uphold each other’s businesses. Today I’m away from home without my family for t Today I’m away from home without my family for the first time since 2019 and, my lord, how fabulous only having one handbag is 😆 I have been consciously slimming my availability and my business for a light summer of work. I talk a lot on my Clear Desk Podcast (available now wherever you pod 🎧) about outsourcing and flexible working, and I am truly walking my own walk in business as I move into the second half of this year. I’ve tightened my boundaries, narrowed my focus and pulled up my drawbridge to allow my creativity and focus to be channeled into my client work and my girls this summer. That doesn’t mean it’s easy. I know there’ll be days when I feel I “ought” to be online. That I’ll worry my biz might evaporate (!) if I’m not marketing myself on the internet. It’s a muscle I will need to work hard to keep in check. But I’m not here for a season, I’m here for the long haul and that’s why I started my business and why, hopefully, I’ll be still around tooting the VA horn in another decade 🎺 I hope you all enjoy the weekend of sport ahead and take 5 mins to check in with your why this weekend. When I decided to launch the Clear Desk VA Members When I decided to launch the Clear Desk VA Membership last year, I wanted to create a tight-knit community of Virtual Assistants and Online Business Managers who were looking to connect, support and progress in their DFY businesses. What I hadn't imagined would come from the creation of this online community, were the friendships, sense of camaraderie and genuine joy in other peoples' success that feels like the ribbon that ties the group together. It is the part of my business that I am most proud of and working on it never feels like work, if that makes sense. In July, I am going to open the doors to this special community to allow other VAs to come and join. Keep your eyes peeled on my social media, website and The VA Weekly (Thursday evening newsletter) for the details because I purposely try and keep the Membership small so this isn't a huge "woohoo you have three weeks to come and play" kinda vibe. It's strength is in its closeness, if that makes sense.
